Tackling Health Inequity – Thriving After Cancer – Boosting Workforce Resilience

“Everyone deserves to be heard, understood and thrive no matter their life circumstances.”                                        Bami Adenipekun

Hi, I’m Bami, founder of Inspired To Soar

Cancer has been part of my life for over three decades. In that time, I have worn the hats of teenage caregiver, loved one and patient when I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 37.
This has given me deep insight and understanding of the devastating impact of the rogue (my name for cancer). I was however determined not to be buried underneath the rubble of the chaos, I wanted to live my best life not merely exist.

I realised that surviving cancer is a good start but there’s more to life than merely existing. I then went on the journey to discover the new me after the bombshell of diagnosis.
I am unapologetically a DIVA – Divinely Inspired Victorious Achiever – a name I coined for myself to map my way forward in the pursuit of my dreams.

This is my heartfelt desire for every courageous woman who has been impacted by cancer.
I truly believe that survival is a bus stop not the destination.

If you are tired of going through the motions of life after diagnosis, YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

It is okay to live fully again.
It is okay to dream fearlessly again.

Let me show how.

As a Black British woman living with breast cancer, I have seen first-hand the effect of health inequities on myself as well as others from ethnic minority backgrounds. I realised that the reasons why poorer outcomes persist is due to a lack of understanding of the root causes. This has led to me becoming a patient advocate and consultant on health inequity issues. I have created learning resources for medical professionals to raise awareness and make things better.

As a researcher, I know that health inequity is costly for the healthcare system and the economy as a whole. I strongly believe that equipping statutory bodies and healthcare professional organisations to address the underlying causes is crucial to lasting change. I do this in different formats creating bespoke content for different audiences.

If your organisation is ready to move beyond rhetoric to taking concrete action towards more equitable healthcare for ethnic minority communities, head over here to begin.

I was ahead of the curve having written my first book, Navigating Your New Normal in 2017. In the book, I defined the new normal within the context of trauma of serious illness and introduced the NYNN© framework. It is designed to be a practical toolbox for leaders in a rapidly changing post-Covid workplace. This will be tailored to the specific needs of your organisation. The aim is to equip you as a leader responsive to the wellbeing needs of your workforce. This in turn would ensure that productivity and efficiency are not compromised amidst uncertainty.

If this resonates with you, head over here.
